Fakhruddin Properties launches Dubai’s first in-building waste management system

Dubai Launches Its First In-Building Composting and Sorting Facilities for Residential Developments at Trafalgar Central 🌱🏙️

Dubai, May 7, 2025 — A new chapter in urban sustainability began today as Fakhruddin Properties introduced Dubai’s first in-building composting and waste-sorting facilities at Trafalgar Central in Dubai International City.

This launch is part of the innovative 90:90 Waste Management Initiative, a groundbreaking model aimed at transforming residential sustainability through a zero-cost and scalable framework. The vision behind this initiative is to divert up to 90% of residential building waste from landfills, hence the “90:90” designation. Through on-site segregation, waste can now be cleanly and efficiently separated, ensuring that only 10% ends up in landfills.

Unlike traditional waste solutions, this project is designed to be resident-friendly, with no added costs for homeowners or tenants. Instead, the system includes the distribution of colour-coded garbage bags—one designated for organic waste and another for general waste—empowering residents to actively take part in sustainability.

“Our goal was crystal clear: to develop a scalable, adaptable, and cost-free waste management solution that delivers tangible environmental, social, and economic results,” said Yousuf Fakhruddin, CEO and Managing Partner of Fakhruddin Properties.

“This initiative reflects our belief that sustainability must be integrated into modern urban life, not treated as an afterthought.”

He added,

“The introduction of in-building composting illustrates that advanced waste infrastructure can seamlessly fit into daily residential life. Not only does it avoid disruption, but it also enhances well-being by improving indoor air quality, encouraging eco-conscious habits, and fueling a green economy. We’re not just managing waste—we’re redefining sustainable living in Dubai.”

Dr. Samiullah Khan, Chief Sustainability Officer of Fakhruddin Holdings, emphasized the broader implications of this vision.

“The 90:90 standard marks a paradigm shift in how waste is perceived—from a liability to a resource. Our approach extends beyond regulations; it’s about our moral responsibility to future generations,” he stated.

“This is not just a pilot; it’s a sustainable blueprint that blends citizen engagement, innovative technology, and transparent governance to generate real-time climate impact and build resilient cities.”

Founded in 2002, Fakhruddin Properties has already built a reputation for promoting green building practices, wellness-focused design, and smart living technologies. Their all-inclusive real estate operations, combined with in-house facilities management, further position them as pioneers of holistic development.
