Shanghai, London, and Dubai to Lead Global Hotel Room Openings in 2025
Based on the latest insights from CoStar, the cities of Shanghai, London, and Dubai are set to welcome the highest number of new hotel rooms worldwide in 2025.
Among international regions outside the U.S., the Asia-Pacific area is at the forefront in terms of hotel development, spanning construction, final planning, and early planning phases.
Data from CoStar, a leading real estate market intelligence firm, indicates that Shanghai, London, and Dubai will be the top global cities for hotel room openings next year.
In Europe, a total of 106,729 hotel rooms are projected to open in 2025. The cities driving this expansion include London, which is expected to add 5,632 rooms, followed by Istanbul with 3,920 rooms and Dublin with 3,197 rooms.
The Asia-Pacific region is witnessing a surge in hotel growth, with 228,468 rooms anticipated to launch this year. Shanghai is leading the charge with 7,953 new rooms, followed by key cities such as Chengdu, Shenzhen, Kuala Lumpur, Suzhou, and Bangkok.
Meanwhile, the Middle East & Africa region is set to see 50,683 hotel room openings in 2025, with the majority concentrated in the Middle East. Dubai stands at the forefront with 5,344 new rooms, followed closely by Makkah, Qatar, Riyadh, and Jeddah.
In the Americas, the Dominican Republic and Toronto are expected to see the most significant hotel expansion outside the U.S., with 3,543 rooms and 1,460 rooms, respectively, scheduled to open in 2025. Overall, the Americas region is on track to introduce 138,909 new hotel rooms throughout the year.
